Instead, we should alter current public policies that fail to promote the proper functioning of the markets and replace them with patient driven, market based alternatives such as health savings accounts, reduced costs through competition, permitting purchase of health insurance across state lines, and medical liability reform, among others. Meaningful reforms to Medicare and Medicaid must be made to strengthen these programs in the near term and ensure continued coverage for senior citizens in the future." (votesmart.org)
