Reason for Seeking Public Office:

I am Joe Jennings, and I'm running for the Oklahoma state legislature for House District 70.

I'm not a lawyer or a businessman and I haven't held any of the jobs you usually see in politics.

I was a Navy man, an electrician and a machinist. I'm not part of any political movement and I'm not running to push someone else's ideas.

I've got a different story. I'm only 45 years old and I never dreamed that I'd be a single dad raising two daughters on my own.

On November 9, 2014, my wife Kristen passed away from breast cancer. She was only 38 years old. She found a lump in her breast just after our youngest daughter, Abagail, was born. When we went to get a mammogram we were told it would not be covered by our insurance because Kristen was too young. We had to choose between paying for the mammogram or feeding our three kids. We chose our children and Kristen lost her battle with cancer.

If we had been on Medicare, it would have been covered. But the insurance we had through my job wouldn't pay for it.

Kristen fought as hard as she could for 5 long and difficult years, but they caught her cancer too late.

I am running to fulfill a promise. It's a promise I made to my daughters and to myself. I don't ever want another boy or girl in the state of Oklahoma to grow up without a mother because she couldn't get the health care she needs.
