Priority Issues:

Government Accountability ? The government needs to serve the people and have proper accountability for all programs, with provisions to review programs on a regular basis.

+ Support legislation to gauge if performance metrics are being met on all programs.
+ Support legislation to increase funding for oversight of programs at the state auditor.
+ Support legislation to encourage private sector / public sector partnerships to share resources and best practices.
+ Support legislation to continue to privatize non-core programs, where the program no longer needs government intervention.

Funding Education ? Investing in education today means that Washington will have a thriving middle class for decades to come.

+ Support legislation to fund the constitutional responsibility to fully fund the cost of public education.
+ Support legislation to have a responsibility to closely examine what processes work in our educational system, and to ensure that every Washington student has access to a fair and equal education. Increase and refine programs that support children at-risk at getting lost in the system.
+ Support legislation to invest into education, supporting teachers, raising standards and demanding accountability from our public education system.
+ Support legislation to increase school construction funding to reduce classroom sizes and dependency on portable classrooms.

Tax Reform ? There needs to be a fair tax structure implemented with no special interest tax exemptions for corporations.

+ Support legislation to adopt a Tax Expenditure Budget for all taxes and revenues.
+ Support legislation to remove corporate tax exemptions ($36 Billion (2012) in tax breaks were issued for Washington Corporations)
+ Support legislation to add a ?clawback? clause to every single corporate tax exemption, if we want to keep them. If the business reduces the number of employees, they have to pay back the tax break in full.
+ Support legislation to move B&O taxes from gross receipts to profit-based.
+ Support legislation to increasing the power of the independently-elected State Auditor to expand performance audits of program for accountability.

Reason for Seeking Public Office:

I'm Aaron Moreau-Cook and I'm running to be your State Representative from the 1st Legislative District, which represents the communities of Bothell, Brier, Mountlake Terrace, and Kirkland as well as south unincorporated Snohomish.

We deserve a more effective, efficient and accountable state government. We need to control government spending before we ask taxpayers for more of their hard earned money.

Olympia needs to put kids first in our state budget. For too many years we've failed to adequately fund our local schools.

I believe that people should have equal rights that are not infringed upon due to gender, sexual orientation, race, or religion. I believe women, as well as all people, should have the freedom to choose what is and is not right for themselves.
