Reason for Seeking Public Office:

While not what I would consider a political animal I have always followed politics and voted. My dad was similar to me, active to a degree within the party but it was late in his life that taking a more active role appealed to him. He settled on running for appellate judge. I have fond memories of going with him to events as he campaigned. His hard work, legal reputation and his dynamic personality won the day. So in the spring of this year I was approached about running for the Maine House of Representatives district 130. I would be representing the citizens of Bucksport and Orrington. It immediately appealed to me but I felt uneasy about assuming a new role that I had never undertaken before. It was also early in the year that I began following Bernie Sanders campaign closely. His integrity, passion and policies excited me about his presidential run. I firmly believe we can do better by one another. Putting our needs, desires and dreams ahead of corporations and special interests is a platform I can run on. I agreed to be a 'paper candidate' until the party found someone interested. Meanwhile I kept following Bernie and thinking to myself, 'Why not now?", "Why not me?". As the primary approached I pretty much knew I was going to stay in the race. After the primary I made the call saying I wanted to run a campaign. It wasn't two days later that Bernie Sanders made his appeal for people to run in their local and state elections, encouraging a political revolution beyond his own campaign. I knew then I had made the right decision. The people first, their dreams, their future!
