Reason for Seeking Public Office:

I grew up at a time when our state thrived on an economy anchored on the strength of a solid middle-class. Hard work -- a staple in every home on my block -- was rewarded and my parents lived with the confidence that their children's futures would shine brighter than their own.

Over the past three decades, we watched as economic polices have driven jobs overseas, flattened working wages and have left too many good people struggling just to get by. We need to stand up for the working men and women of this country, who for generations have been the strength and foundation of this country. They deserve leaders who will fight for them and not succumb to deep-pocketed interests of influence buyers.

I am running for the Iowa House because the cost of college tuition has increased over 1,000% during that same period. I am a direct beneficiary of our country's insistence that every citizen should be accorded a first-class education. We can no longer stand by idly as our children's futures continue to be crippled by the overwhelming debt of their education.

I am running because we bear a responsibility to represent our veterans who put their life in harm's way to protect our nation. Our commitment to our soldiers does not end when they take off their uniform. Just as they served us, we must serve our veterans.  We must ensure that that our veterans have access to the best healthcare our nation has to offer. We must ensure that their service translates into good jobs upon their return to civilian life.

I am running because we must ensure our environment is protected for our children. There is no debate about the necessity of clean air, clean water and fertile land for the future generations of Iowans.

I am running because there are no exclusions to our pledge of "Liberty and Justice for ALL." Our country is founded on that exceptional principle that, given an equal opportunity, any person can succeed and prosper in America. We must ensure that every citizen is protected and enjoys the freedom, justice and liberty that are the hallmarks of this great land.

I am running on the promise that I will be beholden to only one special interest group -- the citizens of House District 60.

As this election moves forward it will become very clear I am neither a country club nor a back room dealing politician. I am a proud, lifelong, progressive Democrat -- my positions are consistent and will not sway to dictates of handlers and pollsters.

I'm Gary Kroeger and I am running to represent a progressive Iowa where our actions are guided by our values. I can imagine no greater privilege than to serve my fellow Iowans -- my neighbors -- as their hard-working Representative.
