Reason for Seeking Public Office:

To do the work of representing Jefferson County. Being our legislative Representative is a job that takes year-round work to know the issues, know the people that can influence the issues and be a person that can influence the issues in our favor. I have the time and the determination to do that year-round job.

To help put Jefferson County on the top of the list for economic development opportunities. We have a good County Commission and a good Jefferson Local Development Corporation. But without effective representation at the Legislature, Jefferson County is overlooked when it comes to economic opportunities. Examples are the VA Center that is likely to go to Helena or Butte instead of to Jefferson County. Dollars for economic development go much more to the larger cities and counties than to rural areas like ours.

To build our influence at the state level. I have worked on education issues at the legislature the last several sessions. It feels to me that Jefferson County lacks influence in the Legislature and at the state level in general. An example would be how we were steamrolled during the last legislative session by those who successfully sought to close the Montana Developmental Center in Boulder. Another example is the better efforts and more money put it on road, trail and stream access and maintenance in others areas of the state.

​To bring us together as one voice on the issues that impact Jefferson County. I will seek to understand the views of each person in Jefferson County. I can do the best job representing Jefferson County if I am familiar with all perspectives on an issue. Although I am running as a Democrat, if elected I will be committed to making sure all perspectives are understood, even if we disagree. I will always look for solutions we can all support. I believe all of us agree on far more than we disagree, especially about local issues.
