Reason for Seeking Public Office:

My name is Vicky Woeste and I am running for the Indiana House of Representatives in District 26.

I've lived in West Lafayette for more than 16 years. My husband and I raised our kids here. I have been deeply involved in politics and civic issues since we moved here. I'm not lawyer - I am an academic historian and I write about law for a living - and I know enough to know we've got serious problems with the laws that are being written about us and for us in Indianapolis. Those laws affect all of us every day, and not always for the better.

​ I'm running because I want to fix that disconnect between policy and real life consequences. I'm running because I know the district and the issues that matter most to the people who live here. I've lived through the education follies of the past 12 years and watched my kids and my kids' friends grow up under the burdens of constant testing that proves nothing about what kind of thinkers they are. I understand the frustrations of people who can't find good-paying jobs here. We have roads and bridges in our county that are literally crumbling beneath our feet. There's a lot of work to do and we must all be engaged in it.​
