Reason for Seeking Public Office:

One of the fundamental strengths of our nation--and our city--is what the founding fathers saw as a commitment to protecting our most basic rights: the right to life, the right to liberty and the right to pursue happiness--the right to pursue our dreams.

Unfortunately, throughout our city and across the State, many State laws are not empowering us to pursue our dreams, but instead are serving to frustrate or to deny them. Whether it is poor investments in streets, ineffective sentencing laws, cuts to health care and higher education, or pay disparities for women, we have to find a better way to work and to move our communities forward.

I'm running for the State Senate because I believe that laws and policies matter, and that when government gets them wrong, people suffer. I'm running because there are not enough lawmakers who are fighting--really fighting--for the things that I believe we all care about. I'm running because I believe in the future of our City, in the promise of our state and in the vision of a society where we all have real opportunities for success.

As the son of a single mother who worked hard and believed passionately in the power of education, I believe that we all deserve a chance to live out our lives to their fullest potential, and that a thoughtful, responsible, accountable government is an important part of our success. As the founder of a consulting firm and former government official, I know that progress is possible because I have been a part of writing and implementing policies that have created jobs, fixed streets, and made sure that we all have a place to go when we get sick; and that work has benefitted neighborhoods across the City of New Orleans.

I'm running for the State Senate because I want to make sure that we all have a chance to pursue our dreams, and I ask that you join with me in continuing to work and fight for our collective future and for the greatness of our city and our state.
