Favorite Quote:

"The test of our progress is not whether we add to the abundance of those who have much. It is whether we provide enough to those who have little." -Franklin D. Roosevelt

"It's all right to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps." -Martin Luther King Jr.

"Few are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of the colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. Each time a person stands up for an idea, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, (s)he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." - Robert F. Kennedy

"Nobody's free until everybody's free." -- Fannie Lou Hamer

"It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without also helping himself." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." -- Martin Luther King Jr.

Reason for Seeking Public Office:

I am tired of seeing our legislators break their promises to fund our schools in Mississippi. Education is the key to better jobs, increased wages, and a higher quality of life for our state's citizens. Mississippi's schools have been underfunded by $257 million, and we cannot expect them to do an adequate job educating our kids if we are not giving them adequate funding. It's really that simple. Mississippi has been last in everything good and first in everything bad for far too long. It's time for more women to seek office, and for new leadership to take charge in our state.
