Reason for Seeking Public Office:

Unity creates possibilities. I'm Charles "Trey" Thomas and I am running for congress to represent the 6th Congressional District of Louisiana. From my experience as a college football player at LSU, high school coach, and even as a high school official, I know how amazing things happen when people come together as a unit to accomplish a goal. Now is the time for us to come together and find solutions to our problems. When we understand and take pride in the fact that we are Americans and live in the greatest country on Earth, nothing and no one can stop us from achieving what may seem to be impossible goals. Now is the time that we need to unify as a nation, sending the right people to Washington. As I meet people, I'm often asked, what can we do to make America stronger? My answer is always the same: Education, Energy and Entrepreneurship. If we unite behind the mission of improving and promoting those three "E's", we come out on top as a nation.

Having spent more than twelve years advocating and fighting to improve education for our children, I know firsthand the importance of a quality Education. Having a great education means freedom and security. It gives you the knowledge needed to take care of yourself, your family and those that you love or are close to you. But more importantly, education is a way to overcome any adversitythat may be holding you back from your dreams. The education of our children should be handled by local school districts with complete buy in from the teachers and parents of that district, not by bureaucrats in Washington pushing down one size fits all approach to the states through strings attached to federal funds. When I'm elected to congress, I will work to give educational decision making and authority back to our local communities because they know how best to educate our children.

Growing up, the Energy sector was what fed, clothed, educated and help to keep a roof over our heads. My father spent his entire career and retired from working inthe petrochemical industry here in Louisiana. So, yes, I'm committed to all sources of energy. I understand the importance of having a thriving energy sector, not only here in Louisiana, but throughout America. As a nation we are far too dependent of foreign resources when we have adequate resources available to us here at home. Louisiana has a wealth of resources offshore in the gulf as well as natural gas deposits on land that could create thousands of highly paid jobs within Louisiana and help America release itself from the stranglehold of imported oil from unfriendly nations. Furthermore, we cannot have an "all of the above" energy approach if certain winners and losers all already decided by bureaucrats in Washington and not the free market of cost-effective options.

Unemployment is too high. People are hurting and some are actually giving up. Now is the time for them to start fighting back. Now is the time for you to join me in this fight for our neighbors and ourselves. America was built on the idea that no matter where you come from, who you are and no matter how much money you have, you can succeed if you are willing to work hard and take risk. The spirit of Entrepreneurship that made American great needs to be revitalized instead of hindered by Washington. One of the ways to get people back to work and strengthen America is to revive the growth and production of small businesses. Washington discourages Entrepreneurship by legislating outcomes for in the free market and continuously weakening small business growth by tying up much needed capital for expansion and hiring with over-reaching regulations and government red tape.

2014 will be challenging and I look forward to meeting more of my fellow citizens in the 6th district and hearing their concerns that will help create a better America, a better Louisiana. I am ready and willing to fight to solve the problems of the 6th Congressional District of Louisiana. It would be my honor and hope to represent you, future constituents of Louisiana, as your next Congressman.
