Awards:
In 2007, at the age of 29 I created my own business and have successfully operated continuously to present day, routinely being noted locally, regionally and nationally as one of the best in the business for commitment to community, quality, and genuine love and affection of this area. In 2010, WCNL was selected as one of the ?Top 5 Small Market stations in America? by the National Association Of Broadcasters - as a Marconi Award finalist. We have twice been selected ?Radio Station Of The Year? in New Hampshire, once in 2009 and recently in 2013; in 2010 we were the Merit award winner. Overall, since 2003 I have been recognized 11 times by the New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters, and twice by the Vermont Association of Broadcasters.
I have never allowed my youthfulness hold me back. My drive and determination have also been recognized by Business NH Magazine in 2011 as one of the 10 ?Self Made In New Hampshire,? 2012 was selected as one of the ?35 under 35 Radio?s Rising Stars? in America, and was Work Stay Play New Hampshire?s top 4 ?New Hampshire Young Professional Of The Year.? In 2012 I was honored to be the youngest selection for the ?Newport Distinguished Citizen Of The Year,? and Community Citizen Award from the Croydon Grange #357 in 2013. I even helped bring a Guinness World Record to America in 2011 by organizing and running ?The Great Mustache Contest.?
Favorite Book:
Political book: American Lion. It's a great read about Andrew Jackson
Non-political: Boy....I'll be honest, I am not much a reader. Lately I have rediscovered the joys of DC Comics. Yeah that's right, I am not ashamed to admit it, and want to be honest with you. I use to read comics in grade & high school. A buddy of mine a couple years ago got me back into them, and now my wife and I will read Batman, Green Lantern, Justice League, etc together. It's a nerdy little bonding time we share. So if you are a comic nerd, I expect your vote! haha. If not, let's just act like you didn't see this question ok?
Favorite Color:
Yellow
Favorite President and Why:
President Grant. For all his flaws and lack of accomplishments, he was a tough man and did all he could to do the right thing. Sadly, his Presidency was full of corruption.
Favorite Sport:
I am a football guy and the Buffalo Bills are my #1 sports team. Been a fan since I was in the 6th grade, 2 years before they lost their first Super Bowl.
Favorite Type of Music:
Being in radio, I am all over the place musically. Historically I am an Elvis fan. The Counting Crows are my favorite band, and I have been a fan of David Gray since 1999. But I can listen to just about anything, it is all mood dependent.
Favorite Vacation Spot:
I don't really have one, I like to go to new places when we do go on vacation.
First Job:
My first job was mowing lawns, raking leaves and shoveling snow at the age of 12. My first real job (where taxes were taken out) was at the age of 15 cutting the trail around the Goshen Ocean. And my first year round job was in high school as a cashier at IGA in Newport, which later became Butsons.
Hobbies or Special Talents:
In my spare time, I enjoy brewing my own beers, with my own recipe. Some come out great, others are horrible. But it's fun trying.
I also have recently picked up woodworking. I took 4 years of wood-shop at Newport High School and loved it. But life got in the way & I didn't have the opportunity to do it anymore. Recently I picked up some proper tools and have had fun building a custom sink and cabinet in my basement, using an old soapstone sink from my Grandmother's Goshen farmhouse, dating back to the 1760's. It's a really cool sink!
Pets (include names):
2 cats with people names. Ed and Josh.
Reason for Seeking Public Office:
After 2012?s election I made an internal decision, I could either do my best to try to fix the divide & help move us forward, or I could sit on the sideline and complain. It comes to no surprise to anyone who knows me, I decided to throw my hat into the ring and do what I know how to do?help people.
