Priority Issues:
*Medicaid expansion and better access to affordable health care (which includes creating incentives to get make more services available in rural areas).
*Bringing our education system up to par to meet the needs of our changing economy and ensure that our graduates are able to earn good, living wages. Providing competitive salaries and benefits to attract and keep highly qualified teachers in Idaho. Increasing state funding for schools so local school districts aren't repeatedly required to pass local levies to keep their doors open.
*Ensure that our infrastructure is maintained and our environment protected so our safety, the quality of life that Idahoans enjoy, our public lands and outstanding environmental characteristics are not lost as a result of irresponsible elected officials who are unwilling to act today rather than kicking the can down the road to future generations.
Reason for Seeking Public Office:
I am running for Idaho's Legislature because I think it's important for Idaho to have more balanced representation. Our state government has been essentially run by one-party for over two decades, leaving a large number of Idahoans with virtually no voice or representation in the Statehouse. This is not good in ANY state. We see our Legislature repeatedly refusing to address issues that are widely supported by the people (such as Medicaid expansion and adding words to our state's Human Rights Act to ensure that our LGBTQ citizens have equal protection under the law). Meanwhile, they continue to waste time on legislation that restrict women's rights (including a bill requiring doctors to provide information to women that is patently false). They bring issues to the floor that are not issues at all, such as passing a bill regarding anti-sharia law, and continuing to introduce bills that would turn over federal lands to the state and requesting a constitutional convention -- measures that have been repeatedly rejected by the people and votes in the Legislature. It's time Idahoans have more sane, balanced representation from Legislators who actually listen to their constituents!
