Favorite Book:
2 favorite books: "Let Freedom Ring" -Sean Hannity, and "Lone Survivor" -Marcus Luttrell.
Favorite President and Why:
Ronald Reagan. When he came into office the country faced a 12.5% inflation rate, and when he left office it was just under 4.5%. GDP rose an average of 3.85% per year. And depending on where your information is from, 16-20 million jobs were created under his presidency.
To simplify the rest, aside from the few things I disagree with what he did as governor, he was everything a U.S. president should be.
Favorite Quote:
"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else..." -Adrian Rogers
Favorite TV Shows:
DEA, Border Wars, How It's Made, Dirty Jobs, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and anything on the military channel.
Priority Issues:
Education, law enforcement, and other emergency services.
Reason for Seeking Public Office:
This whole candidacy started out as the Republican party seeking someone to run against Mary Hayashi (Incumbent-Democrat). The more I participated the more interested and passionate I became in this. It is a pretty ubiquitous understanding that government is failing to do its job correctly. Spending is out of control, as a country we are in debt (almost $13.5 trillion), which is almost as much as our GDP (roughly $14.3 trillion). Something needs to be done. Some services cannot be cut. But services that people should pay for themselves need to be cut from government spending.
I want to help our state and our country get back on the right track and to prevent this recession from turning into another great depression. If I am elected, and by that time a budget plan has not been agreed upon, I would propose a requirement that every member in the state legislature (yes including myself) work 6 days a week for at least 8-10 hours a day until a budget can be agreed on. Spring and summer recesses should be only a couple of days, not weeks. Anybody who watches CSPAN will know that rarely do all members of our legislature show up for the job. I want to institute that all members have a minimum attendance requirement.
I love America and being an American. I love living in California. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics California has the 3rd highest unemployment rate in the country. Our state government has not been doing its job. I want to bring it back on track.
