Title: Establishes Regulations on Teledentistry and Dental Hygienist Services
Vote to pass a bill that establishes new regulations on teledentistry and certain dental hygienist services in Illinois.
Defines “teledentistry” as the use of telehealth systems and methodologies in dentistry, including diagnosis, treatment planning, care, and patient education (Sec. 5).
Requires an individual who receives teledentistry services to receive a referral to an Illinois-licensed dentist to receive appropriate in-person care (Sec. 5).
Requires a dentist to order and review the x-rays of a patient prior to treatment, including via teledentistry (Sec. 5).
Limits the number of oral prophylaxis procedures that a dental hygienist may perform via teledentistry to two per patient before an in-person examination must be completed (Sec. 5).
Requires a dentist to provide a consent form to a patient which explains the limitations of teledentistry prior to any proposed teledentistry treatment (Sec. 5).
Authorizes the use of teledentistry for an initial screening only to assess suitability of a patient for in-person treatment, or to assess acute pain, infection, injury, or a condition that presents immediate harm/discomfort (Sec. 5).
