Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that requires businesses in California with revenue over $100 million to audit all records and submit an affidavit regarding any use of slave labor.

Highlights:

• Defines “in-state entity” as any business or enterprise that is doing business in the state (Sec. 1).

• Requires in-state entities with annual worldwide gross receipts that exceed $100 million to complete an affidavit to verify their use or non use of slavery (Sec. 1).

• Requires the affidavit to be submitted to an unspecified state department by July 1, 2027 for in-state entities doing in state business as of  January 1, 2027 (Sec.1)

• Requires that department to do the following (Sec. 1): 

• Annually report to the Legislature regarding affidavits received during the prior calendar year beginning by January 3, 2028;

• Make all reports available to the public upon request; and

• Establish a public digital platform with affidavit information in an understandable and accessible manner by January 3, 2028.
