Vote to pass a bill that establishes Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as official state holidays in California.

Highlights:

  • Expands the list of official state holidays to include“Eid al-Fitr” and “Eid al-Adha” (Sec. 6). 

  • Excludes these new holidays from being designated as judicial holidays (Sec. 2). 

  • Authorizes public schools and community colleges to close for the observance of these holidays if an agreement is reached through a memorandum of understanding with employees (Sec. 2). 

  • Authorizes classified employees at schools and community colleges to receive paid holidays for these dates if a memorandum of understanding is reached (Sec. 3).

  • Authorizes state employees to elect to receive 8 hours of holiday credit for these dates in lieu of a personal holiday (Sec. 7).
