Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that requires hospitals to treat immigration information similar to protected health information and designate non-public areas in Oregon.

Highlights:

• Requires hospitals to adopt and maintain written policies that (Sec. 1):

• Address how the hospital will respond if a law enforcement authority arrives at the hospital; and

• Identify for the hospital at least one administrator in a supervisory role who is designated to respond when a law enforcement official arrives at the hospital. 

• Prohibits hospitals from retaliating or taking disciplinary action against an employee who distributed informational materials concerning immigrant rights and available services (Sec. 2).

• Requires hospitals to treat information regarding a person’s citizenship or immigration status similar to how protected health information is treated under state law (Sec. 4).
