Title: Requires Citizenship Verification for Voters via Federal Database
Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that requires citizenship verification for voters through the federal SAVE database in Mississippi.
Specifies that if a voter applicant does not provide a driver’s license number on their application and the Statewide Election Management System is unable to verify their citizenship, then the following procedure will take place (Sec. 2):
Enter the applicant’s information into the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service’s Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system;
Send notice by first class mail to the applicant’s mailing address provided on the voter registration application; and
Send notice by phone or email to the applicant’s contact information on their voter registration application.
Requires any individual who receives such notice to provide proof of citizenship to the registrar (Sec. 2).
Specifies that a voter in pending status can cast an affidavit ballot (Sec. 2).
Specifies that the registrar may mark the applicant if an applicant fails to respond and provide proof of citizenship (Sec. 2).
Specifies that this Act is effective on July 1st, 2026 (Sec. 7).
