Title: Prohibits Administrative Action Against Nurses who Refuse Overtime
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits hospitals in Michigan from taking administrative action against a registered nurse who refuses a request to work beyond their scheduled hours.
Specifies that a nurse’s refusal to accept a request to work overtime hours is not grounds for administrative action (Sec. 1).
Specifies that hospitals that violate the provisions of this Act will face the following penalties beginning June 1, 2027 (Sec. 1):
$1,000 fine for the first violation;
$2,500 fine for a second violation that occurs within 36 months of the first violation;
$5,000 fine for a third violation that occurs within 36 months of the first violation; and
$10,000 fine for a fourth and all subsequent violations that occur within 36 months of the first violation.
Specifies that this Act will take effect upon its passage into law (Sec. 1).
