Vote to pass a bill that authorizes a recreational hunting season for alligators in Louisiana.

Highlights:

• Authorizes the Louisiana Wildlife Commission to establish a special recreational hunting season for alligators, independent of the traditional commercial alligator season (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes the commission to establish the season for recreational alligator hunting by area within the state, and to establish harvest quotas or tag allotments per area of the state (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the commission may prohibit the recreational hunting of alligators in any area of the state, and may prescribe residency requirements, required methods, and hours for authorized hunting (Sec. 1).

• Requires individuals to possess a valid basic hunting license, a valid alligator hunting license, and recreational harvest tags in order to recreationally hunt alligators (Sec. 1).

• Prohibits recreational hunting of alligators under the following circumstances, and classifies violation as a class three violation (Sec. 1):

• Outside of the special season designated by the commission;

• Without valid licenses or tags; and

• By illegal methods.
