Title: Establishes Provisions on Generative Artificial Intelligence in Public Schools
Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that establishes provisions on generative artificial intelligence in public schools in Idaho.
Requires the state Department of Education to develop a statewide framework for generative artificial intelligence (AI) use in schools that does the following (Sec. 1):
Prioritizes human-centered oversight, transparency, safety, and data security;
Ensures that no form of AI replaces the role of a human teacher;
Provides guidance on integration for instruction, academic integrity, and responsible student use;
Addresses accessibility, accommodations, and access to AI; and
Serves as a foundation for local school district policies.
Requires school districts to adopt a policy governing the use of AI by students and employees that does the following (Sec. 1):
Aligns with the statewide generative AI framework;
Defines appropriate and prohibited uses of generative AI for instructional, administrative, and communication purposes;
Includes safeguards for student privacy, data security, accessibility, and academic integrity; and
Complies with all applicable federal and state laws.
Specifies that this Act will take effect on July 1, 2026 (Sec. 2).
