Title: Prohibits Prisoners from Profiting on Notoriety While Incarcerated
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits prisoners from profiting on notoriety while incarcerated in Idaho.
Requires people or companies who pay an incarcerated individual for work that exploits the notoriety of their crime to send payment to the Idaho State Treasurer who will place the funds in an interest-bearing escrow account (Sec. 2).
Requires the attorney general to notify the known victims of the incarcerated individual of new deposits into the escrow account within 30 days (Sec. 2).
Specifies the following exceptions to provisions of this Act (Sec. 2):
Payments for legal services;
Works of art or fiction that only briefly mention the crime;
Regular income not related to the crime;
Money earned before the crime was committed; or
News or documentary works designed to inform, where the offender is only paid regular interview fees.
Specifies that this Act will take effect on July 1, 2026 (Sec. 3).
