Title: Expands the Power of Governing Boards Over Faculty at Four Year Institutions
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes more power in governing boards over faculty at four year institutions in Alabama.
Requires that any representative faculty organization at a public institution of higher education that was established before October 1, 2026, be abolished unless they meet the following criteria (Sec. 2):
Ensure adequate representation of each college and school of the institution;
Senate leadership positions be appointed by the university president; and
The total number of members does not exceed 60 members.
Specifies that a faculty senate is for advisory purposes only and may not make decisions on any matter (Sec. 2).
Prohibits faculty senates from issuing public statements on behalf of the institution (Sec. 2).
Requires governing boards to adopt a policy for the granting of tenure and the dismissal of tenured members (Sec. 2).
Authorizes educational institutions to design its policies to fit their circumstances (Sec. 2).
Specifies that this act is effective on October 1, 2026 (Sec. 3).
