Vote to pass a bill that expands the Alabama Public Service Commission.

Highlights:

• Expands the Alabama Public Service Commission to include a representative that serves a geographical district identical to an existing congressional district (Sec. 1).

• Requires the Governor to appoint four commissioners to serve initial terms on the Commission with two serving a two year term and two commissioners serving a four year term (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that election of commissioners shall be phased as followed (Sec. 1):

• Election of two commissioners at the general election in November 2026;

• Election of one commissioner to replace the previous commission president and election of two commissioners to replace the appointed commissioners who served two year terms at the general election in November 2028; and

• Election of two commissioners to replace the appointed commissioners who served four year terms and a commissioner representing the Second Congressional District at the general election in November 2030.

• Specifies that commissioners elected after June 1, 2026 will serve six year terms beginning on the second Tuesday in January following the election (Sec. 1).

• Establishes the position of Secretary of Energy as a member of the Governor’s cabinet that directs the activities of the commission and sets agendas for meetings (Sec. 1).
