Vote to pass a bill that prohibits counties and municipalities in Florida from funding, promoting, adopting, or otherwise supporting initiatives related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Highlights:

• Defines “diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)” as any effort to do the following (Sec. 1):

• Manipulate or otherwise influence the composition of employees with reference to race, color, sex, ethnicity, gender identity or sexual orientation other than to ensure hiring practices match state and federal laws;

• Promote or provide preferential treatment or special benefits to a person or group based on the categories outlined above; or

• Promote or adopt training, programming or activities implemented with reference to the categories outlined above.

• Prohibits counties from funding, promoting or taking official action relating to diversity, equity and inclusion while also voiding existing policies or initiatives involving DEI (Sec. 1).

• Prohibits counties from staffing a diversity, equity and inclusion office or staffing an individual in a DEI office (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes residents of counties to bring forward legal action for violations of this Act and permits courts to award damages and relief (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that any municipal leader found to violate this Act commits misfeasance and malfeasance (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that this Act takes effect January 1, 2027 (Sec. 5).
