Vote to pass a bill that requires the Board of Pardons and Paroles to consider an inmate's employment and education gained while incarcerated in Alabama.

Highlights:

• Expands the structured system of considerations for parole that is to be reviewed every three years, including (Sec. 1):

• Understanding an inmate’s risk to reoffend; 

• Progress shown by the inmate in complying with the Alabama Department of Corrections’ plan; 

• Input from victims or victims’ families; 

• Participation in risk-education programs for inmates; 

• Severity of inmate’s offenses; 

• The inmate’s employment while incarcerated; and

• Education that the inmate received while incarcerated. 

• Requires the Board of Pardons and Paroles to consider employment and education that an inmate participated in while incarcerated in making decisions regarding release (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes the act to become effective on October 1, 2026 (Sec. 2).
