Vote to pass a bill that authorizes school board members in Florida to have access to all school district documents, including all budget line-items.

Highlights:

• Authorizes school board members to access all school documents freely and in a timely manner upon request, including but not limited to (Sec. 1);

• Documents that aren’t public records;

• Notes;

• Invoices;

• Correspondences;

• Memoranda; and

• Internal legal opinion.

• Authorizes school board members to consult with the school district’s chief financial officer on any matters related to the budget alongside access to any detail regarding any proposed or approved budget and any financial transaction made by the district (Sec. 1).

• Requires school districts to make public attachments of agenda items such as vendor contracts or budget documents (Sec. 2).

• Requires school districts to post plain-language versions of any proposed, tentative, and official budget on its website in terms that are easily understandable for the general public (Sec. 3).

• Prohibits school boards from requiring or otherwise incentivizing a district employee to sign a nondisclosure or confidentiality agreement (Sec. 4).

• Specifies that this Act takes effect July 1, 2026 (Sec. 5).
