Title: Amends the Athletic Training Licensure Act to Authorize Athletic Trainers to Provide Care to More Individuals
Vote to pass a bill that amends the Athletic Training Licensure Act to authorize athletic trainers to provide care to certain non-athletes in New Jersey.
Amends the definition of “athletic training” to include the rehabilitation and reconditioning of a physically active person - not exclusively an athlete - for injury or illness prevention, treatment, and management (Sec. 1).
Defines “physically active person” as an individual who participates in a sport, an athletic competition, a performing art, a recreational activity, an employment activity, or a military exercise (Sec. 1).
Defines “illness” as any disease, disorder, sickness, or affliction that arises from a physically active person’s participation in the activities listed above (Sec. 1).
Prohibits athletic training from including the prescription of controlled dangerous substances (Sec. 1).
Repeals provisions limiting the authorized scope of practice for licensed athletic trainers to athletes (Sec. 2).
Specifies that this Act takes effect immediately upon passage (Sec. 11).
