Vote to pass a bill that amends the Athletic Training Licensure Act to authorize athletic trainers to provide care to certain non-athletes in New Jersey.

Highlights:

• Amends the definition of “athletic training” to include the rehabilitation and reconditioning of a physically active person - not exclusively an athlete - for injury or illness prevention, treatment, and management (Sec. 1).

• Defines “physically active person” as an individual who participates in a sport, an athletic competition, a performing art, a recreational activity, an employment activity, or a military exercise (Sec. 1).

• Defines “illness” as any disease, disorder, sickness, or affliction that arises from a physically active person’s participation in the activities listed above (Sec. 1).

• Prohibits athletic training from including the prescription of controlled dangerous substances (Sec. 1).

• Repeals provisions limiting the authorized scope of practice for licensed athletic trainers to athletes (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that this Act takes effect immediately upon passage (Sec. 11).
