Title: Appropriates $50 Million to the Michigan Department of Health for Emergency Food Assistance
Vote to pass a bill that appropriates $50 million to the Michigan Department of Health for emergency food assistance.
Appropriates the following sums to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (Sec. 103).
$50 million for the emergency assistance fund;
$10 million for emergency food bank grants; and
$10 million for the Michigan agricultural surplus system.
Specifies the following purposes for the funds appropriated by this Act (Sec. 301-303):
$50 million shall be allocated from the emergency assistance fund to raise the food-purchasing power of low-income individuals and households, prioritizing those with the greatest level of need;
$10 million shall be allocated for procuring and distributing the Michigan agricultural surplus system to distribute surplus food to low-income residents; and
From the fund appropriated for emergency food bank grants, the Department of Health and Human Services shall allocate funds to members of the Food Bank Council of Michigan for nutrition assistance, food bank resources, and other related expenses.
