Title: Prohibits Employers from Taking Action Against an Employee who is the Victim of Certain Crimes Taking Time off for Judicial Proceedings
Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that would prohibit employers from taking action against an employee who is the victim or family member of a victim of certain crimes for taking time off to attend judicial proceedings in California.
Prohibits employers from discriminating against an employee for taking time off to serve on a jury, is a victim and needs to appear in court in compliance with a subpoena, or is attempting to obtain relief (Sec. 1).
Specifies that relief includes a temporary restraining order, or other injunctive relief, to ensure the health, safety, or welfare of the victim of their child (Sec. 1).
Specifies that an employer with 25 or more employees cannot dismiss or discriminate against employees who are victims or have family members who are victims for taking time off for court proceedings (Sec. 1),
Specifies that employers with more than 25 employees cannot discriminate against individuals taking time off for medical attention caused by a crime, obtaining services from a domestic violence shelter or rape crisis center, or obtaining psychological counseling or mental health services (Sec. 3).
Requires employers to keep any records regarding an employee's absence confidential (Sec. 4).
