Title: Limits the Amount a Landlord Can Charge a Tenant for a Bounced Check
Vote to pass a bill that limits the amount a landlord can charge a tenant for a bounced check in New York.
Limits fees a landlord could collect due to a bounced check to the greater of $20 or the costs the landlord incurred (Sec. 1).
Prohibits landlords from demanding any payment that was dishonored by a tenant's financial institution for insufficient funds, unless any payment, fee, or charge from the tenant for the delivery of a dishonored check, only if such payment, fee, or charge was provided for in the lease or contract (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 3).
