Title: Expands Protections for Consumer Data and Requires Information Sharing About Data Use
Vote to pass a bill that expands protections for consumer data and requires information sharing about data use in Pennsylvania.
Expands the definition of “sensitive information” to include the following (Sec. 2):
Social security number;
Driver’s license number or a state identification card number; and
Financial account number plus any security code or password that would permit access to the account.
Establishes consumers’ right to do each of the following regarding their data (Sec. 3):
Confirm whether or not a controller is processing or accessing their data, unless the access would require the controller to reveal a trade secret;
Correct inaccuracies in their personal data;
Delete personal data provided by or about themselves;
Obtain a copy of their personal data; and
Opt out of the processing of their personal data for targeted advertising or the sale of personal data.
Requires a controller of personal data to comply with a request by a consumer to exercise their rights under this Section (Sec. 3).
Specifies that this Act takes effect one year after passage (Sec. 12).
