Vote to pass a bill that establishes regulations on the labeling and sale of imitation meat and egg products in Ohio.

Highlights:

• Requires the boards of education of each school district, the Department of Education and Workforce, and each institution of higher education to adopt a policy to prevent the purchase of a food that is misbranded as a meat or egg product, or is a cultivated-protein food product (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that this Section does not apply to a state institution’s purchase of those food products for research purposes (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that if the U.S. Department of Agriculture approves a cultivated-protein food product or fabricated-egg product for purchase under the WIC or SNAP programs, the director of health must submit a request for a waiver to exclude those products from program eligibility in Ohio (Sec. 1).

• Prohibits any food processing establishment from selling food that is misbranded as a meat product or egg product (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes the state Department of Agriculture to inspect an inventory of food offered for sale by an establishment following a credible complaint that the establishment misbranded a food as a meat or egg product (Sec. 1).

• Establishes a civil penalty of up to $10,000 for each violation of this Section, and for each day that a violation continues (Sec. 1).
