Vote to pass a bill that authorizes additional credits for the children and siblings of deceased sanitation workers related to the 9/11 terror attacks in New York.

Highlights:

• Defines “killed in the line of duty” as having died in the performance of duty as the result of the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001, or as the result of participation in the rescue effort following the attack (Sec. 2).

• Authorizes additional credit for children and siblings of New York city sanitation members killed in the line of duty in competitive examinations for original appointment (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that the children and siblings of New York city sanitation members killed in the line of duty shall receive an additional ten points in a competitive examination for original appointment in the same municipality in which the deceased has served (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that an individual eligible for additional credit under this Act must apply for such credit, and provide documentary proof of eligibility within two months of application (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that the additional credit may not be used after a permanent original appointment (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that if an individual eligible for additional credit is appointed to a position, and that appointment is terminated at the end of the probationary term, or resigned from at or before the end of the probationary term, the eligibility for additional credit is retained (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that this Act takes effect immediately upon passage (Sec. 3).
