Vote to pass a bill that requires public education institutions in the state of Michigan to ensure student privacy from students of the opposite sex (gender assigned at birth) in multiple occupancy bathrooms and changing rooms.

Highlights:

• Requires public education institutions in the state of Michigan to ensure student privacy from students of the opposite sex (gender assigned at birth) in multiple occupancy bathrooms and changing rooms (Sec. ).

• Defines “Educational institution” as a public educational institution or a separate school or department of a public educational institution, including, but not limited to (Sec. ):

• An academy, college, elementary or secondary school, extension course, kindergarten, nursery, local school system, or university; 

• A business, nursing, professional, secretarial, technical, or vocational school; 

• Any educational institution that receives funds from this state; or an agent of an educational institution.

• Defines “Multiple-occupancy restroom or changing area” means an area in an educational institution designed or designated to be used by more than one student at a time, where students may be in various stages of undress in the presence of other students or individuals. Multiple-occupancy restroom or changing area includes, but is not limited to, a restroom, locker room, changing room, or shower room.

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill do not prohibit an educational institution from allowing a single-occupancy restroom or changing area to be used by an individual of either sex (Sec. 2)

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 2).
