Title: Authorizes the State Comptroller to Provide Funds to Local Governments for Emergency Communication Equipment
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the state comptroller to provide funds to local governments for emergency communication equipment in Texas.
Authorizes funds provided by the state comptroller for emergency communication equipment to be used for the deployment and operation of early warning and emergency systems to provide notification of natural disasters and other emergencies (Sec. 1).
Authorizes the Broadband Development Office to award contracts, grants, low-interest loans, and other financial incentives to support the deployment and operation of such systems (Sec. 3).
Specifies that the Broadband Development Office may coordinate with the Office of the Governor and the Texas Division of Emergency Management to support the implementation of interoperable communications programs (Sec. 3).
Specifies that an award granted under this Section does not affect the eligibility of a telecommunications provider to receive support from the state universal service fund (Sec. 3).
Specifies that this Act takes effect 91 days after the last day of the legislative session (Sec. 4).
