Vote to pass a bill that requires the board of a school district or the board of directors of a public school to implement a wireless communications device policy for students who are in grades K-5 that prohibits those students from possessing a wireless communication device on school grounds.

Highlights:

• Requires the board of a school district or the board of directors of a public school to implement a wireless communications device policy for students who are in grades K-5 that prohibits those students from possessing a wireless communication device on school grounds during all of the following, including (Sec. 1303a):

• Instructional time;

• Breaks between instructional time;

• Lunch; or

• Recess.

• Defines “Wireless communications device” means an electronic device capable of, but not limited to, text messaging, voice communication, entertainment, navigation, accessing the internet, or producing email (Sec. 1303a).

• Defines “School grounds” as a building, playing field, or property used for school purposes to impart instruction to children or used for functions and events sponsored by a school (Sec. 1303a).

• Specifies that school grounds do not include a building used primarily for adult education or college extension courses (Sec. 1303a).

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 1303a).
