Vote to pass a bill that requires state agencies to track and report the services received by undocumented immigrants to determine the amount of tax dollars spent on them in Louisiana.

Highlights:

• Defines “agency,” for the purposes of this Chapter, as the following state entities (Sec. 1):

• The Louisiana Department of Health;

• The state Department of Education;

• The Office of Motor Vehicles

• The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness;

• The Department of Public Safety and Corrections;

• The Department of Children and Family Services;

• The Department of Revenue; and

• Louisiana higher education institutions.

• Defines “illegal alien” as someone who is present in the United States without lawful immigration status, including those granted parole, temporary protected status, deferred action, deferred enforced departure, or similar administrative grace (Sec. 1).

• Requires each agency to determine the eligibility of individuals receiving state services and benefits, and calculate the total dollar amount of all services and benefits provided to undocumented immigrants (Sec. 1).

• The total number of individuals receiving state services categorized by immigration status;

• A summary of any actions taken to ensure compliance with federal immigration law.

• Requires every state agency, board, and commission to comply with federal immigration law (Sec. 1).

• Requires each agency to implement a standardized process for verifying legal status of individuals seeking state services, and make reasonable efforts to ensure that any service or benefit is provided only to individuals with legal immigration status (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes funding to be withheld from any agency who fails to comply with this Chapter until compliance is achieved (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that this Act takes effect upon passage (Sec. 2).
