Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that prohibits the sale and serving of ultra-processed foods in public schools in Louisiana.

Highlights:

• Specifies beginning in the 2027-2028 school year, any city, parish, or other local public school board that participates in a federally funded or assisted meal programor any nonpublic school that receives state or federal funding shall not serve or sell, nor allow a third party food management company to serve or sell, foods with certain ultra-processed ingredients (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that the state Department of Education shall post on the department's website the following (Sec. 1):

• A standardized form that a public or nonpublic school may use to certify that the school is complying with the requirements prescribed by this Section; and 

• A standardized form that a public or nonpublic school may use to certify that the school is complying with the requirements prescribed by this Section.

• Any food or beverage that contains one or more of the following ingredients shall not be served or sold during the regular school day (Sec. 1):

• Aspartame;

• Blue dye 1;

• Blue dye 2;

• Brominated vegetable oil;

• Cottonseed oil;

• Grapeseed oil;

• Green dye 3;

• Potassium bromate;

• Propylparaben;

• Red dye 3;

• Red dye 40;

• Safflower oil;

• Titanium dioxide;

• Yellow dye 5; and 

• Yellow dye 6.

• Specifies that this act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not signed by the governor (Sec. 1).
