Vote to pass a bill that prohibits Ohio public offices and officials from granting protections from arrest to individuals unlawfully present in the United States.

Highlights:

• Defines “public office” as state and local government bodies, courts, and state-supported educational institutions, excluding the General Assembly (Sec. 9.631(A)(1)).

• Defines a “public official” as all elected officials, officers, or representatives of a public office (Sec. 9.631(A)(2)).

• Establishes that no person unlawfully present in the United States is exempt from arrest by federal, state, or local law enforcement for immigration-related purposes, regardless of whether the proceedings are administrative, civil, or criminal (Sec. 9.631(B)(1)).

• Prohibits public offices and officials from (Sec. 9.631(C)(1)–(5)): 

• Granting prohibited privileges;

• Enforcing policies that conflict with this law;

• Obstructing law enforcement immigration actions;

• Prohibiting inquiries about immigration status for enforcement purposes; or

• Penalizing persons acting in good faith under this law.
