Title: Amends Membership of the Maine Land Use Planning Commission
Vote to pass a bill that amends membership of the Maine Land Use Planning Commission.
Increases membership of the Maine Land Use Planning Commission from 9 to 13 members (Sec. 1).
Authorizes the governor to appoint 5 of the 13 members (Sec. 2).
Requires that these members be chosen based on experience in specified fields and repeals preference previously given to individuals living in or near unorganized and deorganized areas (Sec. 2).
Repeals certain eligibility requirements relating to jurisdiction (Sec. 2-3).
Requires that vacant board-appointed positions be advertised for no fewer than 30 days and information be distributed to interested applicants (Sec. 3).
Reduces the time in which the board is afforded to make an appointment to a vacant position from 90 to 30 days (Sec. 3).
Limits members’ service to no more than 2 consecutive terms as tracked by the Secretary of State (Sec. 4-5).
Establishes the position of vice chair (Sec. 6).
Increases quorum and the majority voting threshold from 5 to 7 members (Sec. 6).
Specifies that members appointed by the governor are appointed to staggered terms with 2 members appointed for 2-year terms and 2 members appointed for 4-year terms (Sec. 7).
