Vote to pass a bill that establishes the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Tick Laboratory Operations Fund and directs the State Liquor and Lottery Commission to develop and initiate $4 instant lottery game to raise funds.

Highlights:

• Establishes the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Tick Laboratory Operations Fund, to be administered by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the fund will receive (Sec. 1-2):

• 50% of net proceeds from a new $4 instant lottery game dedicated to tick lab support; and

• Funds will be received from the State, as well as public and private sources. 

• Requires that funds be used for tick lab operations such as supplies, educational materials, salaries, equipment, and travel (Sec. 1).

• Requires the Maine State Lottery to launch an instant game by January 30, 2026, designed to help raise money for the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Tick Laboratory Operations Fund, and must be changed periodically throughout the year (Sec. 2).
