Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that requires municipalities to provide an annual report on certain housing data to the Department of Economic and Community Development for use in the Housing Opportunity Program in Maine.

Highlights:

• Requires each municipality’s annual housing report to include (Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §13056-J, sub-§5):

• The number of residential building permit applications submitted, approved, and denied, categorized by housing type;

• The number of dwelling units permitted and demolished; 

• The number of certificates of occupancy or final approvals issued;

• The number of housing units affordable to persons or families earning 80% or less of the area median income, determined by the Maine State Housing Authority; and

• The number of housing units affordable to persons or families earning between 81% and 120% of the area median income, determined by the Maine State Housing Authority.

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor (Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §13056-J, sub-§5).
