Vote to pass a bill that requires the Public Service Commission to conduct a study to determine potential sites for a nuclear power plant in Wisconsin.

Highlights:

• Requires the Public Service Commission to conduct a nuclear power siting study that does the following (Sec. 3):

• Identifies nuclear power generation opportunities on existing sites;

• Identifies new nuclear power and fusion energy generation sites;

• Identifies sites for the development and demonstration of nuclear power generation and advanced technologies derived from nuclear fission and fusion;

• Develops and provides guidance for advanced nuclear fission and fusion reactors; and

• Considers the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2024 siting study on nuclear power.

• Authorizes the Commission to request proposals for contracts with third parties to conduct all or part of the study (Sec. 3).

• Requires the Commission to submit a report of the results of the study by the 13th month after the effective date of this Act (Sec. 3).

• Requires the Commission to make a final decision on an application for a large electric generating facility that contains an advanced nuclear reactor within 150 days of the submission of the application (Sec. 5).

• Specifies that this Act takes effect on the first or second day after publication of the 2025 biennial state budget (Sec. 7).
