Title: Amends Supervision Requirements and Scope of Practice for Physical Therapist Assistants
Vote to pass a bill that amends the Education Law to clarify supervision requirements and scope of duties for licensed physical therapist assistants in New York.
Specifies that physical therapist assistants work under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist (Sec. 1).
Establishes that a physical therapist assistant’s duties do not include evaluation, testing, interpretation, planning or modification of the patient's plan of care (Sec. 1).
Authorizes that supervision of the physical therapist assistant by the licensed physical therapist must be continuous, but does not always require on-site supervision; however, the supervising physical therapist must be available for consultation with the assistant or patient within a reasonable amount of time, pursuant to the commissioner's regulations (Sec. 1).
