Vote to pass a bill that amends the state's open meetings law in Texas.

Highlights:

• Expands Penal Code by adding Section 30.055 to create a new offense of “Trespass on or Near School or Day-Care Center Property” (Sec. 1).

• Defines key terms (Sec. 1):

• “School” as a public or private elementary or secondary school (Sec. 30.055).

• “Public property” includes streets, highways, alleys, public parks, and sidewalks (Sec. 30.055).

• “School or day-care center property” as all land or buildings owned or leased by the school or day-care center, and any location where a school or day-care-sponsored activity is being conducted (Sec. 30.055).

• Establishes that an offense is committed if the individual (Sec. 30.055):

• Enters or remains on school, day-care property, or public property within 250 feet;

• Does not have a child-related reason involving custody or responsibility for a student, or explicit written permission from the school or day-care; or

• Receives a request to leave from an administrator, educator, or security personnel and does not leave.

• Defines the offense as a Class A misdemeanor (Sec. 30.055).

• Establishes effective date as September 1, 2025. (Sec. 2).
