Vote to amend and pass a bill that prohibits handcuffing children 14 and younger in Connecticut.

Highlights:

• Specifies that in juvenile proceedings all mechanical restraints shall be removed from a preadjudicated detained juvenile prior to and throughout the detainee's appearance in court (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that beginning at the point of initial contact with a police officer, no preadjudicated child under fourteen years of age may be restrained using handcuffs except when necessary for purposes of public safety or because the child is using or threatening to use physical force on a police officer who is engaging with such child (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that this bill takes effect on October 1, 2025 (Sec.1).
