Title: Prohibits the Distribution or Sale of Food Packaging that Contains Intentionally Added PFAS
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the sale or distribution of food packaging, cleaning supplies, cookware, dental floss, ski wax, or juvenile product that has intentionally added PFAS.
Authorizes the California Department of Toxic Substances Control to evaluate uses of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances in products (Sec. 2).
Specifies that these restrictions shall apply to products including food packaging, cleaning supplies, cookware, dental floss, ski wax, and juvenile products (Sec. 4).
Specifies that the aforementioned regulations shall take effect January 1, 2033, and authorizes the department to begin regulation sooner should they find it feasible to do so (Sec. 4).
Specifies that the regulation shall expand to include certain additional products, including textiles, refrigerants, solvents, propellants, suppressants, and lubricants on January 1, 2040 (Sec. 4).
Specifies the criteria through which the department may deem the use of the aforementioned substances unavoidable upon submission of a petition from a manufacturer (Sec. 4).
Specifies that the department must maintain a list of accepted unavoidable uses on its website (Sec. 4).
Specifies that the aforementioned provisions shall take effect January 1, 2027 (Sec. 4).
