Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the manufacture, distribution, or sale in the state of food packaging that contains intentionally added bisphenols or ortho-phthalates after January 1, 2027.

Highlights:

• Prohibits the manufacture, distribution, or sale of food packaging in California that contains intentionally added bisphenols or ortho-phthalates (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes the California Department of Toxic Substances Control to establish a regulatory threshold for bisphenols and ortho-phthalates that are not intentionally added and establishes a 1-year grace period for compliance (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the department may make exceptions for the purpose of protecting public health and/or preventing environmental impact (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes the department to prohibit tetramethyl bisphenol F should it identify significant health risks of its usage (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes the California attorney general to enforce civil penalties of no more than $5 thousand for violations of the aforementioned provisions and no more than $10 thousand for each subsequent violation (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the aforementioned provisions shall take effect January 1, 2027 (Sec. 1).
