Title: Establishes the Delaware Department Of Veterans Affairs
Vote to pass a bill that establishes the Delaware Department Of Veterans Affairs.
Establishes the Delaware Department of Veterans Affairs (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the Department will begin as a division of the Department of State, and a transition plan must be made to separate the Department by July 1, 2030 (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs will be the department head, must be a veteran, and will be appointed by the Governor with consent from the Senate (Sec. 1).
Requires the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs to do the following (Sec. 1):
Develop alternative forms of elder care or create veterans homes to ensure that as many veterans as possible can be served and housed as they age;
Operate one or more Delaware veterans cemeteries;
Maintain a repository for all veterans’ “Statement of Service”;
Administer the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund to assist veterans with medical and dental needs, medical transportation, homelessness, home repairs and safety, household utilities, and educational or retraining programs; and
Advise all State agencies on matters related to the education, training, employment, medical, and financial benefit programs for veterans and their dependents.
